Why does it seem that while it seems almost all the great poets are men (i.e. The Mentor Book of Major British poets has something like a 20/2 ratio), women seem to identify more with poetry?
There are some good women poets out there too... I myself don't love poetry that much. Ssshhh don't tell anyone! Occasionally I find one I love. But I most definitely don't just pull it out and read for fun. Maybe I'm too literal? I get lost sometimes and have no clue what people are talking about.
I agree with penny lane! Well put. We (women) express EVERYTHING so we don't need poetry to get out our pent up emotions... We're healthier in the end. :-)
But you see good knight that there are twenty male authors not ten, if I were doing math then I would have reduced the fraction but this is poetry not math. Even when the queen said she was going to pull out some poetry she mentioned three men. Not to say there are no good female poets but those classic poetry books seem to be preferring the men.
I like Penny's thoughts and it is true that women weren't really allowed in the time of the classics to do much as far as, among other things, the literary world was concerned. The Bronte sisters had to published under a pen name to get any kind of recgonition but all this wasn't really the gist of the post, what I was wondering was why do women seem to flock around poetry seemingly more than men?
But it ain't all buttons and charts, little albatross. You know what the first rule of flyin' is? Well I suppose you do, since you already know what I'm about to say.It's Love. You can know all the math in the 'Verse, but take a boat in the air you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her home.

Perhaps that's because the publishing world the classics came about in favored men, and women had to fight there way in?? Food for thought...

women are more inclined to react emotionally. even when men can put things into words, i dont think they can feel them the way we do.
